{"id":273,"date":"2021-02-08T14:28:43","date_gmt":"2021-02-08T14:28:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.aixperts.co.uk\/?p=273"},"modified":"2021-02-08T14:28:43","modified_gmt":"2021-02-08T14:28:43","slug":"nim-alt_disk_migration-and-p6-processor-mode","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.aixperts.co.uk\/?p=273","title":{"rendered":"NIM alt_disk_migration and p6 processor mode"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I was trying to do a NIM alt_disk_migration on a POWER7 LPAR form AIX 7.1 to 7.2 but the nimadm scripts kept stalling, but without outputting anything interesting, even in debug mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the end I gave up and tried booting the LPAR over the network to do a migration upgrade, but after picking up the kernel from the NIM server, I received this message:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>   --&gt; ERROR: This system is not supported for use with AIX 7.2. &lt;--\n   model: IBM,9119-FHB        processor: PowerPC,POWER7 (in P6 mode)\n\n\n           AIX 7.2 requires the POWER7 (or later) processor.\n                  This system is operating in P6 mode.<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>I had to power the LPAR down, go in to the saved profile and change the compatibility mode back to default:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aixperts.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/image.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"319\" height=\"63\" src=\"http:\/\/www.aixperts.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-275\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.aixperts.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/image.png 319w, https:\/\/www.aixperts.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/image-300x59.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 319px) 100vw, 319px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There you go, migration upgrade running&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was trying to do a NIM alt_disk_migration on a POWER7 LPAR form AIX 7.1 to 7.2 but the nimadm scripts kept stalling, but without outputting anything interesting, even in debug mode.
